Me, My Brother and Mister Pieter Feith

It was a Friday afternoon when I visited the supermarket next door. We are living in the centre of Prishtina next to the OSCE Building, so its nothing new that we meet some “important” people in our daily live. On that afternoon in the “Hipermarket” it was a special feeling.

I was standing in line to pay and to go to the city with my Brother Liridon, as he told me that he forgot something and went away from the line to get it. While waiting for him all people paid. It was my turn and I was turning around to look for him as suddenly two bodyguards and Mister Feith went directly into my direction. A bit surprised to see one of the most powerful persons in Kosovo I was saying to him: “Oh Mister Feith. How are you doing?” while the bodyguard looked at me in a strange way. He answered: “ Well nice thanks. The day is over and everything went nice.” At that moment my brother came back. He brought a chocolate and some biscuits. I smiled and asked Mister Feith: “ Is there a political reason? (for his good mood)? And he answered: “Well your government is still in power!”.

I’m not sure anymore if I misunderstood the situation (I don’t think so), but I answered him: “Well  Mister Feith I think my government will still be in power here when you are not here anymore.” and went out. The bodyguards looked like they would have liked to kick my ass. Mister Feith was seriously surprised about the answer.

To understand that conversation maybe it’s important to know that Pieter Feith has all competences to stop laws made by the government, can kick ministers from the government, and is one of the big global players in Kosovo to find the way how we should act and can act.

Some people told me that it was a compliment of him that he was seriously happy that on that day everything was going fine, while I had the feeling he wants to demonstrate power and was surprised about the answer because he didn’t expect such an answer from an Albanian.

This I sometimes like about daily life in Kosovo. Meeting the world in a supermarket.

  1. I like your blog, it's a nice idea. Just FYI, it's Pieter Feith, not Peter Faith...
